A year before I met Kenny and Tamara and was introduced to what would become Lola Tarot, I was simultaneously studying for my Vedic astrology certification through the American College of Vedic Astrology and apprenticing with the Toltec Center of Creative Intent, a Toltec shamanism school in the Eagle Knight lineage of don Miguel Ruiz. The Toltec apprenticeship used the Tarot as a teaching aid on the Toltec path. Each week we meditated on one of the 22 major arcana cards, opening ourselves up to the wisdom of the archetype. Meanwhile, through my Vedic astrology studies, I learned that the planets and signs corresponded to the chakras of the human energy body.
The Toltec apprenticeship opened me up in an intuitive process to the deeper wisdom of the cards. I was already aware that the major arcana cards related to astrology, but suddenly I was intuiting a way that the major arcana aligned perfectly with the chakras and the astrology of the Vedas, which does not use the three recently discovered outer planets and places as much importance on the Nodes of the Moon as the other planets. The ultimate effect of all this was that my Vedic and Toltec studies combined to create an understanding of the 22 major arcana cards as a holistic system with integrity and cohesiveness. Rehearsing and performing with Lola Tarot has only increased this new understanding of the Tarot by allowing me to embody the archetypes with improvisational theatre, music, and dance.
The major arcana of the Tarot is not only a map of the human energy body, but also a map of the three masteries outlined by don Miguel Ruiz - the Mastery of Awareness, the Mastery of Transformation, and the Mastery of Intent. Each mastery has six cards, with four gateway cards between the three masteries. In the box at right are links to articles I have written for each card.
